World Cup 2022 Regulations
Games: All teams will play a minimum of 6 games at this year’s World Cup event over 10 days 30th September – 9th October 2022.
Group Stage
Group stages: To be played from Friday 30th September to Monday 3rd October 2022.
The 24 teams competing in the World Cup have been placed into groups after the draw in Riva 2022. The matches shall be played & points awarded within the following format. There will be 6 groups of 4 teams.
3 points will be awarded for a win
1 point will be awarded for a draw
0 points for a defeat.
The top 2 teams in each group and 4 of the best 3rd placed teams will qualify for the Round of 16. The remaining 8 teams will play for places 17-24. In the case where teams are level on points the team to progress will be decided by the following:
Between 2 teams in the same group:
1. the game between these two teams 2. the goal difference in all the games 3. goals scored in all the games 4. number of red cards (smaller) 5. number of yellow cards (smaller) 6. Toss of a coin
Between 3 or 4 teams in the same group: 1. the number of points just in the games between the teams involved 2. the goal difference just in the games between the teams involved 3. the goal difference in all the games 4. the goals scored in all the games 5. number of red cards 6. number of yellow cards 7. Drawing of straws
Between teams from 3rd place in the group in the ranking of the 3rd placed teams: 1. the number of points just in the games between the teams involved 2. the goal difference just in the games between the teams involved 3. the goal difference in all the games 4. the goals scored in all the games 5. number of red cards 6. number of yellow cards 7. Drawing of straws
Regarding the teams from 3rd place:
- 4 best teams from 3rd places will play against teams from 1st places according to the table below (depending on the teams from which groups will be promoted).
- The remaining 2 teams from 3rd places will play against teams from 4th places according to the table below (depending on the teams from which groups will be promoted).
Teams not qualifying for the Round of 16
The 8 teams not qualifying for the Round of 16 will play for 17th -24th place. These games will be played between 5th - 9th October.
The format will be as follows*:
5th October:
- Match 37. 3rd Place Group A/C/D/E/F – 4th Place Group B
- Match 38. 4th Place Group A – 4th rd Place Group C
- Match 39. 4th Place Group D – 4th Place Group F
- Match 40. 3rd Place Group A/B/C/D/F – 4th Group E
7th October:
Match 57. Losing Team Game 37 - Losing Team Game 38
Match 58. Losing Team Game 39 - Losing Team Game 40
Match 59. Winning Team Game 37 - Winning Team Game 38
Match 60. Winning Team Game 39 - Winning Team Game 40
9th October:
Match 69. Losing Team Game 57 - Losing Team Game 58 will play for 23rd Place
Match 70. WinningTeam Game 57 - Winning Team Game 58 will play for 21st Place
Match 71. Losing Team Game 59 - Losing Team Game 60 will play for 19th Place
Match 72. WinningTeam Game 59 - Winning Team Game 60 will play for 17th Place

If the games above are level at full time, then extra time will be played. Extra time will consist of 2 halves of 10 minutes. If teams are still level, then penalty kicks will be taken to determine the winner. Please note that goalkeepers are not permitted to take penalties. Only those players who finish the match on the pitch shoot penalties.
